“I know. I heard you Silas, I’m just...what do you want me to do with that? It sounds like some kind of post-workout shake mix.”

He abruptly shrank back into his more human form, scowling fiercely, his voice decidedly less otherworldly. “The Slenderman! The murder in the midwest? I was all over the news?”

I shrugged.

“Sorry, never heard of you.”

He held his stomach like I’d physically punched him, and I sat up straighter, pieces clicking into place as I suddenly sensed my salvation. “Something wrong, Silas? Don’t like how insignificant you are to me?” A groan of pain answered me as he sank back into the wheeled chair under the makeshift motel room desk. “That a Believer doesn’t believe in you?”
